CINEMA – Outstanding Italian Film

  • Io e lei (Produzione Indigo Films) – Because it caters to a broad, mainstream audience, recounting an LGBT love story through the same narrative codes that are used to tell a straight love story.
  • Né Giulietta né Romeo (Produzione Pigra) – Because it tells the story of an ordinary Italian family, in which a son ordinarily comes out to his parents and relatives.
  • Vergine Giurata (Vivo Film e Colorado Film) – Because it draws inspiration from an ancestral Albanian tradition, using it as a tool that can challenge gender stereotypes.

 

RADIO – Outstanding Radio Program

  • Pinocchio – Radio Deejay – Because it takes advantage of its mainstream status to raise awareness on themes such as marriage equality, same-sex adoption, etc., in a way that can be appealing to a young, broader audience.
  • Caterpillar AM – Radio2 – Because it treats LGBT news and stories in a positive way, challenging overarching negative narratives
  • Lateral – Radio Capital – Because Luca Bottura touches upon LGBT themes with his characteristic light and ironic touch.

 

ADVERTISING– Outstanding Campaign 

  • Milioni di passioni – Tim Vision (Leagas Delaney) – Because, along with lots of diverse families enjoying a TV night on the couch, it shows a gay couple. This was a first for Italian advertisement campaigns.
  • Microonde e gustose sorprese – Findus (Havas Worldwide) – Because it tells a coming out story in a typical setting: a family (microwaved!) dinner to show that times are changing.
  •  Buone Feste dalla famiglia Frozen – Disney Junior – Because it directly targets kids, encouraging them to reflect upon the meaning of “family”, all the while putting a gay family along many others.

 

TV Outstanding Series (Italian)

  • Un posto al sole – Rai Tre (Produzione FremantleMedia Italia e Rai Fiction) – Because it is the first soap opera produced by the Italian public broadcaster, and it recently incorporated LGBT themes within the main storyline, recounting the story of a guy coming to terms with his sexual orientation in different contexts (from coming out to his family, to his friends, and to others).
  • È arrivata la felicità – Rai Uno (Produzione Publispei) – Because it is a series produced by the main Italian broadcaster that uses reassuring daily life stories and – among others – tells the story of a lesbian couple becoming parents.
  • Ragion di Stato – Rai Uno (Produzione Rai Fiction e Cattleya) – Because it is a TV movie aired by the Italian public broadcaster showing one of the female protagonists’ sexual orientation as a matter of fact and not as something that needs to be defended.

TV Outstanding Series (Foreign)

  • Grey’s Anatomy – La7 e Fox Life – Because it is one of the most popular TV series and it brought to Italy the first realistic representation of a lesbian love story to appear in mainstream TV.
  • Beautiful – Canale 5 – Because it is a cult soap opera in Italy also, and it recently introduced a transgender character, relying upon her to touch upon sensitive topics such as coming out / outing, in order to teach something to its audience.
  • Faking It – MTV Next e MTV8 – Because it caters to a younger audience, recounting with elegance the sad and happy moments that gay and lesbian teens go through while discovering themselves, relating with parents, teachers and peers. All this is achieved through a rare balancing of irony, levity, and depth.

TV Outstanding Program

  • Che Tempo che Fa – Rai Tre – Because it is a weekend talk show that often touches upon LGBT themes, always shunning controversy. The closing stand-up segment often turns into a moment where the comedian urges politicians to act in favor of civil rights.
  •  Pechino Express – Rai Due – Because it is a popular reality show that, in its 2015 edition, extensively told LGBT people’s stories: those of contestants, staff members, and the presenter himself. The contest has been won by two gay guys.
  •  Italia’s Got Talent – Sky Uno – Because, for the first time for an Italian TV program, it broadcasted a marriage proposal between two men. The video has rapidly gone viral and from then on has been shown on many Italian TV news and shows.
  •  Sconosciuti – Rai Tre – Because it is a storytelling program that delved deeper into ordinary LGBT people’s stories, all the while avoiding sensationalism and stereotypes.
  •   Vite Divergenti – Real Time – Because it sheds a unique light on what the experiences of transgender persons, encouraging to lay claim to one’s authenticity.

WEB Outstanding Video Production

  • 10percento Badhole Video – Because it is a love story between two women told in an innovative way, through 100 10-second clips uploaded on Instagram.
  •  Fuori! – Because it turns LGBT people from subjects of analysis into real people, ultimately proving that being visible is key to fight ignorance.
  •  The Jackal – Because the group chastises common misperceptions about LGBT people, in ironic and clever ways.

PEOPLE – Person of the Year

  • Mika – is a singer-songwriter who shows his sexual orientation with pride and authenticity. After being a victim of a homophobic attack, he reacted by sharing his story to fight homophobia.
  • Laura Pausini – is a singer who is being vocal about LGBT rights during her concerts and on social networks. While launching her new album, she declared that she is not going to be married until LGBT people will be granted equal rights.
  • Tiziano Ferro – is a singer-songwriter who, having become a celebrity in Italy in 2001, came out in 2010. Ever since, he has been a champion of LGBT rights.
  • Barbara D’Urso – is a TV host, actress and writer. As a TV presenter, she campaigned in favor of civil rights by giving LGBT people a voice in many of her shows.
  • Fedez – is a young rapper with one million young followers on Twitter. He has been nominated for his strong stance against homophobia and for inviting his fans to be straight allies in during the latest Pride month.
  • Daria Bignardi – is using her voice as an influential journalist, writer and TV host to speak out for LGBT rights while helping LGBT people telling their stories, while urging intellectuals and the whole of society of taking up arms for this battle.
